The Dun Muir Collection

Last week-end saw the official opening of the Dun Muir Collection. This art exhibition uses the lower levels of Dun Muir as its setting and includes pictures and installations from various artists. All the pieces displayed have been purchased during the many exhibitions that have been taking place at the neighbouring Kirkness Art Centre over the last year.

DM CollectionAlso exposed are the finalists entries of last year HEART08 art contest. The 2009 contest was also launched that day and will shortly open for a chance to win the L$20,000 prize. Details on the rules, theme and deadlines can be obtained from the KAC Curator, Edvard Gylling, and will shortly be available on this page.

The opening was a success with many residents and visitors coming to enjoy the art as well as the great classic jazz set provided by the Jazzologist Miles Eleventhauer.

So what not visit us and see some of the very best by the thriving Second Life art community.

The Lion Roars at Moonbeam

Red Another great weekend of events and happenings at Hinterland’s famous pub, the Red Lion.  Last week, as a special treat for our regulars, we moved our usual Saturday night gig over to Rickie and Gab’s brand new club, Moonbeam Ranch.  DJ ReZ put on his red boots and became our sexy Santa as he spun up some fantastic tunes and the guests had a wow of a time.

The competition was best tattoo…and I won!  I had to stop and think, “I don’t remember rigging the contest or bribing anyone”  The guests must have had problems with their eyesight.  All that booze I guess.

I have to say that Rickie and Gabs have done a fab job with Moonbeam.  The club is beautifully designed, well layed out and the boys make you feel right at home.  I know that there are heaps of great events lined up for the holiday season, so why not pop over and join their group.  That way you always know what is going on.

After the party Ro and I headed back to the Lion and settled in for a nice long chat with a couple of our regulars while I streamed some classic Australian pub rock.  You know the type of thing: Dragon, The Angels, Icehouse, Cold Chisel and, of course, INSX.  I had to remind Ro not to spoil my Meatloaf joke…again!

Next Saturday, we are back at the Lion with DJ ReZ and our regulars (thanks guys!) and the theme will be “Bad Santa and the Naughty Elves.  And with DJ ReZ reprising his role as “Bad Santa”, I guess the rest of us will just have to be the naughtiest elves in Second Life!

Cheers

The Red Lion, Kirkness

With the aim to help to discover the various venues of the Hinterland Estates, we present to you today The Red Lion.

At the heart of Kirkness Village, opposite the Hinterland Visitors Information Centre, this is a traditional Scottish pub with a twist. The bar stools, the secluded booths or the comfortable chairs by the roaring log fire will allow you to chat among friends while enjoying the music. The pub is also the venue for some of Hinterland’s most popular events: live music and singing, our friendly publican, Munchkyn, streaming for you and taking requests while you relax, or parties and contests animated by one of our friendly DJs.

Residents and visitors are sure to offer you a warm welcome, so why not come and visit us!

The Hinterland Commission

Safe Harbor by Erron Darkstone

Safe Harbor by Erron Darkstone

A couple of months ago I had the good fortune to be introduced to Erron Darkstone by our resident photographer, Zinc.  I had approached Zinc to do some work for me but he was fully booked with a huge project and under deadline pressures.

Erron turned out to be not only a fantastic photographer but a warm and charming man.  Having posed for Erron I can tell you he is meticulous and takes the time need to get exactly the right shot. And having seen his work I can tell you that he does just that.

Well one thing lead to another and I ended up commissioning Erron to visually document the sims of Hinterland.  And so for the last month he has been wandering about photographing not only the landscape but the folk of Hinterland.  It is a huge project and one that we don’t expect to be completed soon but Erron’s work will be going up for you to see.
